Annona muricatahas already received numerous common names – the best known are guanabana, soursoup or graviola.
Almost completely unknown in Europe, the fruits of this plant are best compared with cherimoyas (Annona cherimola).
Constituents of guanabana (annonacin) have already become known to pharmacology after several studies demonstrated cancer cell inhibitory activity (Potential Benefits of Annona muricata in Combating Cancer: A Review; A. Yajid et al. 2018). Other toxicologically interesting findings also suggest some new insights in the future.
Guanabana has even made it into the computer game “Green Hell” as a helpful medicinal fruit.
Annona muricata naturally branches already quite close above the ground and abundantly, which gives this plant a rather bushy appearance.

Annonas like it constantly moist, but waterlogging must still be avoided.
Rich and well-drained, slightly acidic soil is well suited.
During the sunny months it can be fertilized according to the manufacturer’s instructions (for example, a 10-10-10 fertilizer or a little more phosphate).
